The covid-19 has changed students' life in different aspects. Ceased China-US flight, canceled US VISA interviews, online courses, while reassuring people from the fear of disease, these measures have troubled international students from different countries. When could the VISA interviews be normalized? When could the China-US flight be recovered? When some schools gave automatic pass/no grade last Spring, how would professor see future applications that have affected by this year?

AmCham South China is honored to have Associate Director Prof. Justin Wyatt from School of Communication, Associate Director Prof. Norbert Mundorf from School of Communication, Dean Prof. Jeannette E. Riley from College of Arts and Sciences, Mr. R. Bowen Gillie Coordinator of International Admission office, share their views on the expectation of next semesters, the future of education and the most concerned questions bear in our minds.

Professor, Dean at College of Arts and Sciences, URI

Jeannette E. Riley currently serves as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. Professor Riley received her Ph.D. in English in post-1945 American and British Literature and Literary Theory in 1998. Professor Riley’s research interests focus on women’s literature, with an emphasis on contemporary women writers and feminist theory. She has published articles on Eavan Boland, Terry Tempest Williams, Adrienne Rich, and Toni Morrison. Her writings on Adrienne Rich have appeared in ‘Catch if you can your country’s moment’: Recovery and Regeneration in the Poetry of Adrienne Rich; From Motherhood to Mothering: The Legacy of Adrienne Rich’s Of Woman Born; and Soundings: An Interdisciplinary Journal. She is the author of Understanding Adrienne Rich (2016), from the University of South Carolina’s Understanding Contemporary American Literature series. Professor Riley’s work also includes publications on feminist pedagogy and online/blended teaching and learning.
During her career, Professor Riley has taught a range of courses including Post-1945 American Fiction, Contemporary Women Writers, American Poetry, Survey of American Literature since 1865, Critical Methods: Theory & Practice, and Introduction to Literature. In the field of Gender and Women’s Studies, Professor Riley teaches Introduction to Gender and Women’s Studies, as well as courses in feminist theory (American feminist theory; Ecofeminism; 3rd Wave Feminism).
Prior to joining the University of Rhode Island, Professor Riley was a Professor of English/Women’s and Gender Studies at UMass Dartmouth (2002-2015). She also served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences there (2012-2017). While at UMass Dartmouth, Professor Riley was recognized for her work in assessment (Assessment of Student Learning with Technology Leadership Award, May 2005); online teaching and learning (Sloan-C’s Excellence in Online Teaching Awards, 2008), and she served as the Roy J. Zuckerberg Endowed Leadership Chair (2011-2013).

Dr. Norbert Mundorf

Interim Director, Professor, Program Chair of Communication Studies at URI

Norbert Mundorf (Ph.D. Indiana University) is a Professor at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he has taught since 1987.
With his background in Communication he is involved in various interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach initiatives to promote Sustainable Transportation, Resilience and Health. Research interests include media, global and online communication, as well as sustainability and behavior change. He has worked with the URI Transportation Center, Cancer Prevention Research Center, and the Coastal Institute.
With the University of Göttingen, Fraunhofer ISI and Yangzhou University he has collaborated on issues related to Virtual Mobility and Sustainable Transportation, including the impact of transportation choices on health and active living. He is the editor of the Special Issue on Sustainable Transportation and Health of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH, 2017).
He has been involved in projects related to health promotion (smoking, alcohol, DUI), sustainability and behavior, acceptance of innovative renewable materials, and preparedness for the impacts of Climate Change. At URI he is the coordinator of the Sustainability Minor. Dr. Mundorf has actively promoted intercultural communication and discussion of global sustainability through a global online debate network with universities in Germany (Braunschweig), Russia (St. Petersburg) and China (SPU, Yangzhou U., Peking U., Beihang U.)
