Dr. David Peng is an Independent Directors of Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co., Ltd., which is the first Sino-Foreign Joint Venture Life Insurer in China.
Prior to this position, Dr. Peng was a Managing Director and CEO for China at Medical Excellence International whose major shares were held by Starr Indemnity & Liability Company. Dr. Peng used to be the Chief Representative in China for C.V. Starr & Co., and an Executive Director and Deputy General Manager of Dazhong Insurance Company of China which is now renamed as Starr Property & Casualty Insurance Co. China Ltd.
Concurrently, Dr. Peng is a Tribunal Member of Shanghai Court of Financial Arbitration, a Corporate Mentor of Shanghai University MBA Center and the Vice Chairman for GBA Policy at AmCham Institute for International Economic Strategy.
Dr. David Peng used to be a Director of the Board, a Senior Vice President and the Director of Distribution for AIG General Insurance Company China Ltd. Dr. Peng also held a number of other senior positions in AIG companies in China including the Assistant to Chairman of AIG Companies in China, the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of AIG Business Consulting (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and a leader of expert group at AIG/PICC Co-Operation Division, an AIG entity working with PICC Property and Casualty Insurance Company Limited in which AIG was a strategic investor. While at AIG, Dr. Peng had also been the General Manager of AIU Insurance Company (AIU) Shanghai Branch and Guangzhou Branch respectively.
Mr. David Peng obtained his Chinese Lawyer Qualification and worked for a major Sino-foreign corporation in China as the Chief Counsel prior to 1989. From 1989 to 1992, Mr. Peng studied at the University of Dundee of the U.K. for his PhD degree in insurance. In 1992, David worked for Shell (UK) Ltd. as an Insurance Consultant and from the end of 1992 to Dec. 1995 Dr. Peng worked for a major international insurance broker in its London head office and Hong Kong regional office as General Manager of China Division.
Dr. Peng was a part-time professor at the Business School of Sun Yat-san University and a Research Fellow of Economic Diplomacy Center at Tsinghua University. He was also a
Vice President of Guangdong Foreign Invested Enterprises Association and the Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Guangdong (now renamed as AmCham in South China) from 1998 to 2005. Dr. Peng is the author of a book in U.K. entitled Insurance and Legal Issues in the Oil Industry and the Chinese translator of Israel and China: From Silk Road to Innovation Highway which was published by Peoples Publication House. Dr. Peng is an active speaker on Capital Market, Leadership and Management Behavior, Professional Ethics, Risk Management for Large Commercial Risks, Director and Officer’s Liability Insurance, Health Management and Health Insurance and Product Liability Insurance, etc. at various conferences and seminars in Hong Kong, Malaysia, London and Mainland China. He also writes articles on insurance and legal issues for newspapers and magazines from time to time.
